All children in this digital age should have the opportunity to educate themselves more swiftly and effectively than ever before, with access to the basic hardware and software requirements. Giving Whilst Living (GWL) attempts to bridge the gap that exists by donating pre-owned computers, tablets and phones to underprivileged students. We hope that in time they will also adopt the values of altruism, generosity and sustainability, nurturing a spirit of giving back to the community and environmental conservation.
The pandemic exposed a significant digital divide in South and Southeast Asia, where limited access to devices, internet, and digital literacy hindered distance learning, particularly for students from impoverished backgrounds. Below is a consolidated summary of the statistics for each country based on the provided data:
In 2021, 29 million Indian students lacked access to laptops or digital devices. This gap significantly hindered their ability to participate in distance learning.

In Thailand, only 16% of households have computer access. In some schools, the computer-to-student ratio is one laptop per 17 students, severely limiting digital learning opportunities.

In the Philippines, 2.8 million students lack internet access, and 40% have no devices for distance learning. The digital divide is particularly severe in rural areas, hindering educational equity.

I am a member of Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile, Hong Kong. We tie up with Rotary clubs in each country who play a vital role in making this all happen. A designated Rotary club in each country is the official vehicle for receiving donations and they are also involved in finding recipients, vetting them and delivering along with our GWL Ambassador.
GWL is an environmentally friendly project. Laptops, mobile phones and computers which would otherwise have been discarded, adding to e-waste which is a health and environmental hazard, are recycled and upgraded. This initiative benefits the less privileged in our society who cannot afford to purchase these items. It ties in with the ESG and CSR efforts of multinationals that are committed to contributing to a more sustainable future
✓ This project supports all three initiatives.
